After the Adoption

After the baby is placed with the adoptive parents and after the adoption is finalized, your CT-AFS social worker will continue to be available to you for as long as neccessary. The agency will also continue to facilitate any picture or letter exchanges that the birth and adoptive parents have agreed upon. Or, if you have any recent medical information that should be shared with your child, the agency will try to contact the adoptive parents to pass this on.

Contact after Adoption
In Connecticut, adult adoptees over the age of 18 years and birth parents who have birth children over 18 years may request that the agency contact their birth relative. You can decide at the time of the adoption or anytime thereafter if you wish to sign up for what is called the "reunion registry". By signing the registry form, you are consenting in advance to having contact with your birth child if he/she requests it. Often, this leads to a reunion if both parties agree to it. A social worker at CT-AFS will help you through this process when it arises.

Agency News

  • Sep 16, 2009 - Families Needed:
We are now looking for Connecticut parents to adopt infants of all races, including African-American, through private domestic adoption. The waiting period has become much shorter over this past year, so domestic adoption has become a more viable option for many. As always, we are also seeking families to adopt CT state foster children through our grant-funded program "Project CT's Child".
  • May 1, 2009 - Check out the Heart Gallery
If you are considering adopting a child from the state foster care system, please visit the "Heart Gallery", a moving exhibit featuring portraits of waiting children. We can help you adopt these and other foster children. You can view these photos at: www.heartgalleryct.org
