Support Groups

On-Line Adoption Support
Kate Donovan Hodgkins, one of our adoptive parents, recently volunteered to start an on-line support group for our waiting families and those with children in the home. Kate and her husband have adopted both through the private domestic and the DCF system. She said the group has been going very well. In fact, she has 'been busy coaching 3 families through the placement process in September! If anyone else would like to join, please email Kate at: simplired12@yahoo.com and put "adoption group" in the comments.
Please ask your social worker for more information on this group.

There is also a free support group for pre-adoptive and adoptive families called "Parenting the Challenging Child". This group is held monthly on the second Thursday. of each month from 6-7:30 p.m at the Old Mystic Baptist Church. Families can call Julie Martin for further information at 860-442-2797 x1249
or e-mail at: challengingchild@yahoo.com.

  • Sep 16, 2009 - Families Needed:
We are now looking for Connecticut parents to adopt infants of all races, including African-American, through private domestic adoption. The waiting period has become much shorter over this past year, so domestic adoption has become a more viable option for many. As always, we are also seeking families to adopt CT state foster children through our grant-funded program "Project CT's Child".
  • May 1, 2009 - Check out the Heart Gallery
If you are considering adopting a child from the state foster care system, please visit the "Heart Gallery", a moving exhibit featuring portraits of waiting children. We can help you adopt these and other foster children. You can view these photos at: www.heartgalleryct.org
  • Apr 17, 2009 - Visit Us on Cable TV
If you live in Southeastern CT, please check out our public access TV show "Families in the Making". The schedule is listed on the section of this website titled: Visit Us on Cable.
